Finding a Doctor

A family doctor or primary care physician is often your first and ongoing point of contact with the health care system. Not only do they extensive knowledge and experience in a multitude of illnesses, diagnostic tests, and treatment options, but they often serve as a link to other health care providers.

If you do not currently have a regular family physician, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC maintains a listing of physicians currently accepting new patients. As well, you can contact your local Health Unit in your community for listings of doctors accepting new patients.

Women’s Health Concerns

On the BC Women’s Hospital web site you will find a list of doctors offering maternity care. In BC, family physicians, registered midwives and obstetricians are licensed to provide maternity care. Obstetricians are specialists with extra training in surgical skills and management of complicated pregnancies. They typically see women with complex pregnancy issues. Most women see either a midwife or family physician for their pregnancy, labour and delivery.
