Be prepared it’s supposed to be a scorcher this week! You can never have too many easy, healthy, not-heavy dinner ideas up your sleeve, especially during summer. Here’s five dinner ideas that are simple, tasty and take less than 30 minutes to prep. 



  1. BBQ Chicken Sandwich
    Pick up a rotisserie chicken at your local grocery store for these easy kid-friendly sandwiches on summer days. Add your choice of condiments such as lettuce, tomato and even a pickle for a complete and heathy meal. Best of all you’ll have enough chicken for other meals all week long.
  2. Cold Finger Food Tray
    Cut up a variety of kid friendly finger foods such as carrots, celery, deli meats, crackers and cheese. Include protein rich foods like hummus, cottage cheese and home-made vegetable dips. Arrange on a low serving tray and place in the centre of the table so the whole family can dig in.
  3. Wrap it Up
    Wraps are a great way to switch it up the usual sandwich routine and are when cut in three sections are perfect for small hands to hold. With so many options you’ll have dinner ideas for at least two to three dinners in a week. Use cut up turkey and mix with cranberry sauce; caesar salad with chucks of chicken; open a can tuna and spread on with melted cheese or try a veggie wrap with carrots, spinach leaves, greek yogurt and red pepper.
  4. BBQ Mini Burgers
    Mini burgers are easy for little hands and when thrown on the grill cook in half the time of regular size burgers. Top with your favourite bbq sauce and condiments, you’ll have complete meal without turning on the oven.
  5. Crockpot Beef and Broccoli 
    Find your favour crock pot recipe or try this kid friendly version of Beef and Broccoli. Prep and organize the night before after the sun has gone down. You’ll come home to a healthy meal ready to go without mess.

Quick Salad Ideas

  • Greek Salad: green, red peppers, cucumber, olives, tomato, red onion, feta cheese with greek dressing
  • Caesar Salad: leafy lettuce, croutons, cheese and chicken and make it a meal or wrap
  • Quinoa Salad: make the quinoa the night before and cool in the fridge. Add in chopped tomatoes, black beans, green onion
