Are you an UrbanMom? Our UrbanMom spotlight features every day British Columbia Moms who are raising their children and come from all walks of life from new moms to moms with tots or even teenagers.

Meet our featured UrbanMom Melissa! Mother to Lily 6 years old and Alexandra,
4 years old

1) What is the best part about being a mom? The unconditional love is probably the best part overall, but it’s the little things that really get me. For example, when they’ve just woken up in the morning and their hair is messy, they’re all warm and snuggly, and their eyes are bright and ready to see what the day has in store for them.

2) What is your favourite activity to do with your Children? We love to cook and bake together. One of my best memories with my mom is her teaching me how to cook, and I really want to pass that on to my girls. However, I can’t promise that the goodies we bake are going to be any good…I’m not a great baker. Lol.

3) What is your favourite television show? Nothing beats good old Friends “PIVOT!!”

4) What is the last book you’ve read? I’m a total bookworm and I’m currently tackling the Century Trilogy by Ken Follett. I’m on book one – it’s called Fall of Giants, and it’s a historical novel that follows a bunch of families during WWI and WWII.

5) What is one product or service you can’t live without?  Coffee, coffee, coffee.

6) How do you find some “Mommy Time”?  As bad as this may sound, I love it when my husband takes the kids out for a few hours so I can de-clutter and clean my house. Once my house is clean, my mind feels clear!! Then I light my candles and settle onto the couch with my book. I also play soccer – any fitness, for that matter, helps me get a break.

 7) Any advice for balancing work and being a mom? Well, I’d be giving advice that I need to take for myself too, as I struggle with this. Honestly, the one thing that helps me balance my work and home life is fitting in some daily exercise. Whether it’s walking my dog or going to the gym, it makes the busy schedules much more bearable.
