Meet our featured UrbanMom Emily! Mother to Eva 7 years old and Mya,
4 years old and lvy, 18 months old

1) What is the best part about being a mom?

The best part about being a mom is getting all the unexpected hugs and kisses and when your kids tell you they love you. Those special moments mean the most to me.

2) What is your favourite activity to do with your Children?

I love swimming with my kids. It’s an activity that we all look forward to and enjoy together. My eldest one loves the wave pool whereas my middle child loves the hot tub so we’re constantly going back and forth from the two.

3) What is your favourite television show?

I can tell you what my baby’s favourite television show is, because that’s what we always watch. It’s the Wiggles. But when I finally have a chance to choose I don’t normally watch a TV show. I love watching stand up comedians. The one that really cracks me up is Gabriel Iglesias. It’s on Netflix. Great way to wind down after a hard day at work.

4) What is the last book you’ve read?

I usually read whatever’s in the bathroom. LOL! It’s the best place to read because it’s quiet and you’re alone (unless the baby has followed me). The last book I read was, The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman.

5) What is one product or service you can’t live without?
With kids, they are constantly making a mess and spilling stuff on the chairs, carpet and sofa. That’s why I can’t live without Folex, a carpet stain remover. It’s my go-to product for any “accidents” that happen.

6) How do you find some “Mommy Time”? (able to find a break from the kids and take time for yourself?

Some days after work are rough. I feel exhausted mentally and physically and just need some time for myself to rejuvenate. When I have days like that I go for a massage. There’s this one really good reflexology place I go to near my house. The price is pretty reasonable and I never have to book an appointment. I just drop in and they are always able to accommodate me.

7) Do you work? If so, where and what do you do?
Yes, I work. I work for Vancouver Coastal Health as a registered nurse helping people in the community. I also write and manage a blog. On my blog www.happymomblog.com was created on a whim when I was on maternity leave. On the blog I try to solve the biggest mom problems and share tips on how to make moms happier.

8) Any advice for balancing work and being a mom?
I’ve learned that when our lives are unbalanced, that’s when things can feel crazy and stressful. Finding balance takes a conscious effort, a bit of analyzing and planning. It can be hard to find balance because it may require us to change our ways and change is not always easy. But if we make that change and pay attention to areas in our lives that are lacking, we will see a difference and be much happier as moms.
