robsonsquare_skating240With November already half over and Christmas décor adorning most windows and streets around town, it feels like the holiday spirit is already in full swing. There are lots of activities around town that you and your family can enjoy – but what better of an idea to be privy to the FREE activities that are out there?

Here are 5 FREE Family events that you and your loved ones can do this year to really get into the holiday spirit!

Free Ice Skating at Robson Square

From December 1, 2015 to February 29, 2016, Robson Square Ice Rink (located at 800 Robson Street in Vancouver) is open to the public and offers free ice skating. Skate rentals are $4, so if you have them, bring your own. After ice skating, make a day of it and browse down Robson Street and feel the festive spirit of Downtown Vancouver during the holiday season. Roger’s Santa Claus Parade
This year, the jolliest and most family-fun event of the season happens at 1pm on Sunday December 6th. Santa Claus and his parade of friends and volunteers make their way through downtown Vancouver, lighting up spirits and streets the whole way through. Be sure to arrive early to get your seat, and check out www.rogerssantaclausparade.com for more information – and be sure to bring a non-perishable food donation for the Food Bank.

Trinity Street Christmas Light Display
Bundle up in your mittens and scarves, grab a hot chocolate, and get ready to be awe inspired by the most spectacular light exhibit in the whole lower mainland! Every year, the residents of Trinity Street in Vancouver create an incredible montage of various twinkling lights, festive scenes and glowing spectacles that will delight everyone. For $2, you can vote for your favourite exhibit, and all proceeds are donated to various charities.

Surrey City Tree Lighting Ceremony
Make sure to write November 21 on your calendars! This marks the date of the annual Surrey City Tree Lighting Ceremony, happening at Central City Plaza and Surrey City Hall in Surrey (13450 104th Avenue, Surrey). This event is a great kick off to the holiday season, and the event lineup is packed – complete with a Michael Buble tribute band, an appearance from Splash and Boots from Treehouse TV, and even a visit from Elsa and Anna of Arendale! The event starts at 12pm and the tree lighting occurs at 6:30pm.
